I've never been so tired...

SeesaltDesktopBackground
Well, that's a lie. One time me, Jay, and Robbie, vowed to stay up for an entire week, but by day 3, we crashed and slept for 53 consecutive hours. Anywho, I'm still really freakin tired! I am loving every minute of SeeSalt "training camp," even though this is my first year, I already feel so comfortable with everyone. The staff is amazing, so if you're going, it's gonna be awesome, and if not, why? I'm trying to blog daily, but since we have zero free time, and I'm hacking internet from Mitch's neighbor, it's a struggle. I MUST sleep now, before I die, but here are some pics from the staff video shoot, it's a western theme...

Mark Batterson @ WiBo...

DSC02583
Ok, so the first speaker at the whiteboard sessions was a guy named Mark Batterson. He's the pastor of the National Community Church in D.C. Here's what he had to say...

#1-We all know that God's thoughts are higher than ours, but the bible actually tells us how much higher. Our thoughts are a universe away from God's(that's 13.2 billion light years.)
#2-We need to confess our small dreams to God. When we don't dream big, we're selling ourselves(and God) short.
#3-Never cease to be creative, otherwise memory will overtake imagination and instead of saying "why don't we try this?", we'll say "remember when we did that, let's do that again."
#4-Everything begins with God-given dream.
#5-One "God Idea" is better than 1000 good idea's.
#6-The last point was that when Christ said "Go into all the world and preach the gospel" this was a huge deal because in the 1st century, most people never traveled more than 35 miles from there home. God dreams big, we should too.

Wisdom from WiBo...

Whiteboard The Whiteboard sessions, was pretty much amazing. It consisted of 6 incredible pastors, all sharing the "One Big Idea" they wanted to impart to the church. It was interesting to see that all of them had completely different "Big Ideas" to share. It just goes to show you how God uses each of us differently. Over then next week or so, I'll be sharing what I personally got from each speakers point, but bare with me because this next week will be insanely busy(more about that later).

Finally...

Panera
After 27 torturous hours of not being being able to blog, I can now breath a sigh of relief. Apparently D.C. is "The home of the 10 dollar wi-fi connection", but I knew if I held out long enough, someone would offer free-wifi. So, exactly 10 minutes after Josh caved and payed 10 dollars for one day of internet, I found free wi-fi at Panera Bread. Thanks Panera. So far, D.C. has been amazing! Expect many blogs about our downtown adventures within the next 5 days. We are going to go into "WIBO" in the next few minutes to make sure we get a seat, but I will try to blog every chance I get. PS...If anyone has to be up at 7am, I have found it's much easier with a Venti Caramel Frappucinno...

Getting Ready...

Whitehouse
I am currently packing for my trip to Washington D.C. tomorrow, and I don't think I could be more excited. Not only because of the conference I'm going to attend, but because I am going to see some of our nations most well known landmarks. Here are my goals for the trip, although there are some that are a lil unrealistic.

#1-Take a picture inside the oval office.
#2-Stand in the lap of good ol' "Honest Abe."(ladder Required)
#3-See the veterans memorial wall.
#4-See the inner chambers of the C.I.A(we are planning to do something shady so we'll get interrogated). #5-Meet at least 2 well known politicians, one of which needs to be The "W" .(fingers crossed for Obama) #6-See a gang fight.(from the safety of our rental car)
#7-Go to a black barbershop, and get a haircut.
#8-Ask people random questions with video camera.

If you have any other suggestions, leave them in a comment.

What the eff?

2_2Ok, so there is a growing trend among girls from tweens to 30somethings, regular people to celebs, and I feel it needs to be addressed. What do you think when you hear the words "role model?" Do you think, tragic death, shallow material wealth, depression, and loss of respect for one's self? Me either, yet there are a large group of women who, dare I say, idolize, Marilyn Monroe. "What the eff?" Idolatry is bad enough, but if you are going to idolize someone, at least pick someone who led a fulfilling life(like Tupac, or Mister Rogers). Marilyn Monroe (or should I say Norma Jean. (I would have changed my name too if I had 2 first names)) had a rocky childhood, with a mentally unstable parent who committed suicide, and several family members that met the same fate. She later went on to be an actress who was never taken seriously, but eventually broke into the lime light because of her looks and "ho-ish" demeanor. When she did land big roles, her co-stars said she was unbearable to work with. She admitted that most of her life she had been a drug addict who battled clinical depression, and at the end of it all, she either committed suicide by overdosing or(as conspiracy theorists would say) she was murdered because of her illicit affairs. Either way, her life pretty much sucked, even she thought so, yet people constantly quote her(in interviews, on myspace, and in away messages on AIM!) and strive to be like her. So the next time you hear some girl speak of Miss Monroe with a tone of admiration, CALL THEM OUT! You know who idolized Marilyn more than anyone? Anna Nicole Smith. Her life, from beginning(a jacked up childhood) to end (overdose) was exactly like Norma Jean's, and look how that turned out. It really says a lot about a culture when "the perfect life" is nothing but the vanity of fame and a few bucks in the bank. Peace.

PS...The amazing portrait was painted by Claire.

My fingers taste like Coca-Cola...

Nprior2961450For those of you who don't know me, this title may cause you to ask 2 questions. The first is..."Why are you tasting your fingers?" The answer, is that I am a habitual nailbiter, and have been, for 15 years. The second question you may ask is..."Why do your fingers taste like coke?" The answer, is because I was volunteering with a new church plant in Spartanburg called Hub City Church. It's being started by Jonathan Everette, a man with an amazing vision to plant a church geared toward completely unchurched, 20 to 30somethings. I volunteered by serving coke, sprite, and diet coke to people for 2 hours. It was fun, and I really got to see the heart of this core group. They truly want to better the community, and, above all else, love people. There is no doubt in my mind that this church(people, not building) are going to be a huge force in Spartanburg in the upcoming year. After passing out free drinks and popcorn, everyone(probably 3000 or so, not bad for a church that has yet to have it's first service) enjoyed a movie on a massive screen set up right in the center of the park. It was a great night!

All you need is Love?

This is actually my first blog. I wrote it on facebook a couple months ago, but facebook sucks, so I thought I would post it here...

As i was spending ungodly amounts of time on facebook this thought crossed my mind..... in this day and age(kinda reminds me of the family matters theme song) we are universally connected and yet it seems our relationships are more shallow than ever. If you don’t understand what I mean than just take a moment and think back to the days of myspace and the verbal lashings you would receive if you didn’t immediately accept someone’s friend request. Do you see how desperate people are to be accepted? There doesn’t have to be any true form of relationships, just the shallow, watered down, new millennium lie that our culture proclaims is real, personal, connection. Now, I am new at this whole blog thing so thing so bear with my random thoughts, but as I was pondering this thought I switched gears and began to listen to the Across The Universe soundtrack, which by the way is amazing and has reignited my love for beatles songs....anyways...I was listening to....yep, you guessed it, “All you need is love”. This in turn sparked the thought that if there was any bit of Truth(Big T truth) in the immortal words of good ol’ John and Paul, according to scripture, All we need is God, since God IS love. This revalation hit me in a big way. All the loneliness, emptiness, longing, and so on can be solved with one simple thing love(God). If the answer is staring us in the face...no scratch that...SLAPPING us in the face, and if 1/5 of the world are supposedly christians why are so many people lost and searching??? I guess that is a rhetorical question, we all know why, it’s because we aren’t doing our part. can you imagine what the world would be like if we just showed Love to everyone??? If we didn’t care about what they looked like, listened too, hung out with, or even what they did? we don’t have to run out to the street corner with signs that say “be saved or burn”, all we have to do is show Christs love the best we can. So i encourage you, if you claim to be a christian, act like it. Pray, read your bible, and all that, but most importantly...show Love......peace
