Garbage in, garbage out?
I can't tell you how many times I've heard this saying. It usually comes from the pulpit, just before I slowly drift off into a ridiculous daydream, one of which I am sure to be woken from with a violent "pimp slap", by a near by friend. Thanks J. I've heard it all throughout my life. I've heard it in Baptist churches, "Community" churches, and radical Pentecostal churches, and I used to agree with them 100%. However, since I started reading a few books that really dive into who Christ was/is, I realized this saying completely goes against what the bible says. I understand that as christians we don't need to constantly surround ourselves with things that could cause us to stumble, but we don't need to lock ourselves in a church and constantly pray for all the "lost souls" either. We shouldn't asses everything that is not "christian" as garbage, or something we need to avoid at all costs. We're called to be IN the world. Jesus didn't spend his time in a church, tallying up the offering and praying for the ho's, crooks, and other various miscreants in his day. He hung out with them. He ate dinner with them, and most importantly, he loved them. So I guess my point is that you need to have a solid foundation in your faith, and know what your weaknesses are, but once you do, you shouldn't be afraid to go to the streets, clubs, and local bars and associate with people who you may think are of "questionable character". We're to model our lives after Christ, and that's what he did. So get out there!

this is pretty awesome robin hunt.
